Just as we begin to count down the days until we return to paradise, SXM Festival recently announced the second phase to it’s 2022 line-up in the tropical island of Saint Martin. The festival will span across five days at various locations that show off the unique beauty of the island. From the festival’s main stage grounds at the majestic Happy Bay, to the plane-spotting beach club Karakter, SXM truly delivers a unique festival experience like no other.

In the Phase 2 announcement, we saw some familiar names and SXM alumni added the roster including Audiofly, Gab Rhome, Marco Carola and UnderHer alongside many others. Other notable artists added to the lineup such as Innellea, Jimi Jules, Layla Benitez, and Magdalena will be making their festival debut. The Phase 2 lineup release compliments an already stellar Phase 1 lineup that includes Âme, Blond:Ish, Danny Tenaglia, DJ Tennis, Dubfire, Gordo, Joeski, Ricardo Villalobos, Sonja Moonear, WhoMadeWho and more.

It is looking to be a triumphant return for festival that had to end its last installment a day early in March 2020 as the world prepared to grasp the devasting affects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The last and final phase to the lineup is slated to arrive next week, and we can’t wait to see how it will round out an already impeccable line up of some of the best in house and techno.

Tickets are still available and can be found at https://www.sxmfestival.com/.

Being one of the largest music events in Mexico’s Quintana Roo region, Zamna Festival returned with an energetic start that rocked Tulum for 6 nights with some of the most in-demand names in electronic music. While the previous edition of Zamna was delayed last year due to Covid-19, this year’s event continued as planned but required all attendees to present a negative test within 24 hours each of event at designated Covid-19 testing sites. While this may have deterred some from attending and forking over an extra $40 per test for each event, that did not stop the 10,000 fans each night who traveled from all over the world to attend some of the biggest parties held in the jungle of Tulum.

Zamna’s opening event on New Year’s Eve was headlined by the buzzing Ukrainian duo ARTBAT, who have turned into one of the most in-demand acts in Tulum. Diynamic queen Magdalena closed the island stage after ARTBAT’s monstrous set, bringing her thunderous melodic techno sounds until the sunrise. The next event featured Claptone’s masquerade party, in addition to Diplo’s Higher Ground hosting the Pool stage the same night. We really enjoyed the disco vibes from Purple Disco Machine, who played about a two hour set before Solardo that included originals and electronic classics such as New Order’s “Blue Monday”.

Afterlife bosses Tale of Us brought a massive party for the third event, debuting start-art of the art visuals and production on the main stage. Anyma, the alias of Tale of Us’ Matteo Milleri, even debuted an NFT on the massive display along with several mind-boggling visuals.

Infamous party brand Circoloco hosted the festival’s fourth night, bringing in a plethora of talented artists including Dixon, Peggy Gou, Adam Port, &Me, Honey Dijon and many more. The following Saturday night, South African sensation Black Coffee took over the island stage with Zamna veterans Angelos and Themba. After Black Coffee’s set, the three went back-to-back playing loads of unreleased material until the early morning.

Sunday’s closing party was without doubt our favorite Zamna event this season, as the festival ended with a bang. Several Tulum debuts took place, including a back-to-back with the Progressive House legends Sasha and John Digweed. Meanwhile at the Pool stage, Sebastian Leger brought his modular live setup for the first time to Tulum after debuting at Amsterdam Dance Event back in October. The legend Sven Vath brought his vinyl-only setup to Tulum for the first time and played a monstrous 5 hour set full of techno bangers.

In addition to the Zamna Festival events held at the Zamna hotel, Zamna hosted several pop up events throughout the month of January at Art Beach Tulum. Located at the entrance of the Hotel Zone, Art Beach is in a favorable location that avoids most of the traffic found further south near most of the popular clubs and restaurants in Tulum. In addition to the Dj’s performing, Zamna and Art Beach also offered various dining options including multi-course gastronomic experiences from some of the most renowned chefs in Latin America. We were able to catch ARTBAT’s set at Art Beach on January 3rd, which may have been one of the best sets we saw while we were in Tulum. Two nights later, we went back for the Phoenix event which included sets from Adiel-Kas, 0ostil, Kas:ST, Yotto and Mathame. And finally, we went back to catch Magdalena throw an impeccable set to an intimate crowd the following Friday night. All in all, we really enjoyed the events held at Art Beach and hope that Zamna will continue to host events at Art Beach in the future.

All good things must come to an end, and once again we can say with confidence that Zamna certainly did not disappoint in its latest installment. The festival curates a very special experience for electronic music fans, with more and more being invested into the production and lineups for each event. We can’t wait to see what Zamna will have in store for its next edition, as the festival continues to grow and surpass previous years.

The CRSSD experience isn’t limited to just music – there will be craft food and cocktails from an assortment of vendors as well as a record store provided by Los Angeles’ Stellar Remnant for you to peruse. Browse new gear at Tech Center and all of downtown San Diego to explore before or after the event. This event also lowkey doubles as a fashion show so dress to impress! Think edgy urban street style meets kinda dark tropical techno vibes. Lockers are available for rent to store a jacket / faux fur coat (because Fashion) as it tends to cool off at night.

This event is 21 . Please also note a clear bag policy is in effect – to read more click here

The Weekend’s Soundtrack

With a lineup this stacked, come prepared for hour after hour of hip shaking music. To get you excited (or more familiar with some of the artists) I’ve linked a playlist that highlights artists of the weekend here.

Headlining for the weekend will be Gorgon City and will be showcasing their latest album ‘Olympia’ –which is brilliant, if you haven’t given it a listen. Their iconic bass forward house sound is timeless and they always deliver a fantastic performance.  Crowd favorites and genre defying SOFI TUKKER will no doubt be playing their latest album, ‘WET TENNIS,’ which is an acronym for When Everyone Tries To Evolve, Nothing Negative Is Safe. The duo and album promote positive growth and optimism in the midst of adversity. Plus, they know how to make people dance. Effervescent yet dance heavy indie rock group Glass Animals will make us ooey ‘Gooey’ as they serenade us. Live acts carry a certain infectious energy that will no doubt be a fun addition to the other acts. Modern techno aficionado Adam Beyer will be taking over and spinning techno tracks into the night. Founder of  Drumcode Records and headlining festivals all over the world, Adam Beyer will no doubt craft an unforgettable set. Heavyweight house producers Claude VonStroke and Green Velvet will be taking the decks together under their new project, Get Real

Let’s Gooo!

This will be my first CRSSD adventure and I cannot wait to be dancing in the sun with my friends. Follow them on social media here and snag your tickets here. I hope to see you there!

A Gem of a Festival: 5 Reasons Gem & Jam Stands Out From The Rest https://festivals.digitalsnazz.com/a-gem-of-a-festival-5-reasons-gem-jam-stands-out-from-the-rest/ https://festivals.digitalsnazz.com/a-gem-of-a-festival-5-reasons-gem-jam-stands-out-from-the-rest/#respond Wed, 12 Jan 2022 04:16:00 +0000 https://festivalcoast.com/a-gem-of-a-festival-5-reasons-gem-jam-stands-out-from-the-rest/ Photos by SageTee Photography, Gem and Jam 2017
Written by Sarah Shepis

At this point in time, we are graced with a plethora of options for festivals galore: food festivals, art festivals, conscious festivals, and even festivals intended for nothing more than a good time. Gem & Jam of Arizona is a unique [gem of a] festival that incorporates a lineup of coveted artists, workshops, and more – all seamlessly blending with the eclectic Tucson culture. Artists, musicians, camping enthusiasts, and creatives of all kinds are preparing to meet at the Pima County Fairgrounds for an unforgettable weekend this February 4th-6th, 2022.

Here are five reasons why Gem and Jam festival stands out from the rest:

1. World-Class Music

The 2022 lineup remains impressive, hosting both orchestral and DJ sets of massive electronic artists like STS9, Liquid Stranger, Shpongle, Claude Vonstroke, Lotus, and more. Organic, soul-soothing music from folk-inspired musicians like Rising Appalachia and Moontricks is sprinkled into the all-encompassing lineup for your listening pleasure. Artists from all around the world perform at Gem and Jam, bringing talent of all kinds to the festival grounds.

2. Workshops and Art Installations

In addition to the stacked lineup, Gem and Jam ensures consistent mental and physical stimulation. Be sure to check out the wellness-focused workshops including yoga / acroyoga classes, live painting, theatrical festival characters, and even chill, kick-back spaces adorned with immersive art. On the chilly desert evenings, you can cozy up by one of the many bonfires, usually burning out of an aesthetic metal structure. Let’s not forget the various climbable art… this festival is truly a playground of fun for kids of all ages.

3. Diverse Culinary Offerings

The high-quality offerings of Gem and Jam food vendors are a treat of their own. Food trucks of nearly every cultural cuisine are offered on-site, catering to the preferences and needs of even the strictest diets. With this diversity, Gem and Jam does an excellent job keeping all dietary needs met and tastebuds ecstatic.

4. Gem Culture

Gem and Jam Festival is rooted in the eclectic culture of desert-dwelling, music-loving, and gem-awing Tucsonans, looking to connect deeper with the gifts from our Earth. Tucson celebrates gem and mineral showcasing throughout January and February, with its largest exhibit at the Tucson Convention Center through the weekend of February 10th-13th, 2022. Gem, mineral, and fossil aficionados from all over the world are drawn to these events, which bring an exceptionally diverse crowd to the Gem and Jam festival in early February. The fun continues into the Tucson Renaissance Fair, which opens just after Gem and Jam and continues through April. The festivities are seemingly endless!

5. Intention

Gem and Jam aims to be an intentional festival celebrating community and creation. One of many examples is the consistent support of the local music and art community. The ‘All The Homies’ stage features a lineup of Arizona artists and receives a plethora of well-deserved love from the audience. This event stays close to its roots with respect and appreciation for the community that started it all.

In the name of philanthropy, Tribe 13 Art Gallery and Gem and Jam Festival historically raise money for local artist non-profits. In 2020, nearly $4,000 in donations was raised to benefit the Tucson Art Collective [Non-Profit], Many Mouths One Stomach. To learn more about their mission, visit manymouths.org. Keep an eye out for donation opportunities including this year’s silent auction, if you would like to contribute as well!

Gem and Jam 2022 has something for everyone and even more. If you have not yet experienced the magic of this festival, you are in for a weekend of incredible surprise.

It’s that time of the year where we not only count down the final days of the year, but head south of the border to relax by the beach, soak up some sun, and listen to some of the world’s best electronic music in Tulum, Mexico. Zamna Tulum will once again be hosting another action-packed 10-day festival lineup at their majestic property that surrounds a cenote in the middle of the jungle. While there will likely be final additions made the program’s schedule, let’s dive into what we know of the lineup as there’s a lot to unpack.

Zamna’s opening party will kick off on New Year’s Eve with Artbat as the headliner for their Upperground label party. Artbat has been on a quite a run the past few years in the electronic music scene playing all around the world and is a veteran of the Zamna festival having played the last few years. Speaking of Zamna veterans, Tale of Us will bring their iconic Afterlife party back for another promising year. The lineup includes several Afterlife favorites such as Recondite, Stephan Bodzin and Tale of Us themselves. In addition, there are several rising Afterlife stars worth seeing including Colyn, Fideles and Innellea who will be playing a live set. Claptone will be bring his masquerade event on January 2nd, and Black Coffee will be bringing the South African house vibes on Saturday, January 8th

New to Zamna is the Ibizan giant Circoloco, who has been hosting their parties all over the world for the last 20 years. Finally, the closing party will be held by the British label Renaissance, who will be bringing an epic lineup for what could be the best party Tulum will see this winter. Progressive house legends Sasha and John Digweed will go back-to-back, as will the Innervision labelmates Echonomist and Jimi Jules. Sebastian Leger will bring his Modular live set up that recently debuted at Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) back in October, and the mighty Sven Vath will be bringing the crates for an extended vinyl set that will consist of only the best techno to be heard in the jungle.

LIB 2022’s five-day experience will be kicked off by none other than the Desert Hearts Crew’s Mikey Lion, Lee Reynolds, Marbs and Porky for a picturesque return of their famed Lakeside Launch Party, this time taking over the new sandy enclave appropriately dubbed LIBeach. Adding to this, there will be a 4-hr Joe Kay Experience (Soulection) set on Thursday night at The Stacks. Do LaB is also premiering a new stage at LIB called The Junk Yard, which will be the home of the Junk In The Trunk art car. Seen at Burning Man, Junk in the Trunk will act as a stage backdrop and be mobile around the festival at times. The Junk Yard will replace Favela Bar as the event’s host for California’s favorite native house and techno artists.

For those looking for the joy of a camping festival with expanded creature comforts, LIB will for the first time offer a new VIP experience only Do LaB can dream up. VIP pass holders can get off their feet in backstage lounges at Lightning, Thunder, and Woogie, grab a quick drink in these areas at full bars, and watch headlining performances at the elevated Lightning Stage viewing area. For more info on VIP tickets, visit https://www.libfestival.org/tickets.

LIB is also excited to reveal a new boutique camping experience, Atlaswyld, a festival-within-a-festival featuring glamping options and elevated content ready to be explored. Wake up each morning in a luxurious Bell Tent, Kodiak, or Airstream to be met by tailored yoga and wellness classes, culinary programming, Happy Hour mixers, and other high-end encounters aimed to dazzle alongside the festival’s immersive landscape of wonder and discovery.

These new elements will complement the event’s nearly multi-decade commitment to bringing together forward-thinking music across many distinct stages, educational and cause-driven discussions and activities at The Compass, intriguing immersive programming from favorites like The Grand Artique, Unicorn Palace, The Mixtape and so much more.

Lightning in a Bottle is ready to return home to the beautiful shores of Buena Vista Lake in Southern California and reclaim its traditional Memorial Weekend date – May 25-30, 2022. Buena Vista Lake immediately brought comfort and familiarity to the LIB community thanks to its swim-friendly waters, abundant grassy topography and thick shade trees. 2022 will see this wondrous playground come further to life, creating an idyllic container for the reconnection we all need so deeply.

An afternoon coffee break, or afternoon tea, often occurs as well.

The coffee break originated in the late 19th century in Stoughton, Wisconsin, with the wives of Norwegian immigrants. The city celebrates this every year with the Stoughton Coffee Break Festival. In 1951, Time noted that

“Since the war, the coffee break has been written into union contracts”

The term subsequently became popular through a Pan-American Coffee Bureau ad campaign of 1952 which urged consumers, “Give yourself a Coffee-Break – and Get What Coffee Gives to You” John B. Watson, a behavioral psychologist who worked with Maxwell House later in his career, helped to popularize coffee breaks within the American culture.

Coffee breaks usually last from 10 to 20 minutes and frequently occur at the end of the first third of the work shift.

In some companies and some civil service, the coffee break may be observed formally at a set hour. In some places, a cart with hot and cold beverages and cakes, breads and pastries arrives at the same time morning and afternoon, an employer may contract with an outside caterer for daily service, or coffee breaks may take place away from the actual work-area in a designated cafeteria or tea room.

More generally, the phrase “coffee break” has also come to denote any break from work. Coffee was initially used for spiritual reasons. At least 1,100 years ago, traders brought coffee across the Red Sea.

At first, the Arabians made wine from the pulp of the fermented coffee berries. This beverage was known as qishr (kisher in modern usage) and was used during religious ceremonies.

Coffee drinking was prohibited by jurists and scholars meeting in Mecca in 1511, but the subject of whether it was intoxicating was hotly debated over the next 30 years until the ban was finally overturned in the mid-16th century. Use in religious rites among the Sufi branch of Islam led to coffee’s being put on trial in Mecca: it was accused of being a heretical substance, and its production and consumption were briefly repressed.

Coffee, regarded as a Muslim drink, was prohibited by Ethiopian Orthodox Christians until as late as 1889; it is now considered a national drink of Ethiopia for people of all faiths. Its early association in Europe with rebellious political activities led to Charles II outlawing coffeehouses from January 1676. Frederick the Great banned it in Prussia in 1777 for nationalistic and economic reasons.

“concerned about the price of import, he sought to force the public back to consuming beer”

Quite a number of members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church also avoid caffeinated drinks. In its teachings, the Church encourages members to avoid tea, coffee, and other stimulants.

Abstinence from coffee, tobacco, and alcohol by many Adventists has afforded a near-unique opportunity for studies to be conducted within that population group on the health effects of coffee drinking, free from confounding factors.

How Nancy Reagan Gave Glamour and Class to the White House https://festivals.digitalsnazz.com/how-nancy-reagan-gave-glamour-and-class-to-the-white-house/ https://festivals.digitalsnazz.com/how-nancy-reagan-gave-glamour-and-class-to-the-white-house/#respond Tue, 04 Dec 2018 20:00:53 +0000 http://td_uid_9_5c06dcf53ad61 A coffee break in the United States and elsewhere is a short mid-morning rest period granted to employees in business and industry.
